Hike Prospect Heights trail

The Prospect Heights trail is the little brother to the immensely popular Glen Alps trail; the two are about three miles apart, connected by the Powerline Pass trail and the Middle Fork Loop trail as well.
Prospect Heights is the best access point for a couple of great mountain hikes: Petite and always-muddy Near Point, and the sustained hike up Wolverine Peak. It’s also home to a few great winter trails, including the South Fork Rim trail, a short jaunt that gives surprisingly nice views over Campbell Creek Gorge.

This trail is very grassy during summertime, going from single track to wide trails. The path can get muddy and icy in the spring. You can make your hike as easy or hard as you want, because there are so many trails branching off of this trailhead. You can also choose how long you want to hike on this trail. Moose are known to frequent the area.
This is a good hike for kids and families. There isn't as much traffic on this trail compared to the popular hike up Flattop Mountain.
You can find a good view of the mountain ranges and the long sweeping valley from Prospect Heights.

To reach Prospect Heights, head east on O'Malley Road to the Anchorage Hillside; just after the road hooks left and becomes Hillside Drive take the first right, which will be Upper O’Malley Road. When Upper O’Malley ends, take a left on Prospect Drive. Prospect Heights Trailhead is at the end of this road, in the parking lot on the left.
There is a $5 Chugach State Park fee for a parking pass, so make sure you have some cash.
