Hike the backside of Flattop

There are two trails to get to the top of Flattop. The backside is my favorite way!!
To get there head up Upper DeArmoun and turn right on Canyon Road. Follow to the end. The Flattop trail heads directly up from the parking spots. Rabbit Lakes trail heads out as if you were continuing on the road past the gate.

The backside of Flattop Mountain is a 1.9-mile loop trail. This side of the trail has less traffic on the trail and no scramble.
It is not very difficult, kids can do it, but it is a nice uphill challenge.
The trail is rated easy to moderate skill level for this trail.

The view from the summit of Flattop is certainly worth the effort. It is a sweeping panorama from Turnagain Arm, to Anchorage's urban sprawl, and north to the Alaska Range giants: Denali and Foraker.
The view south includes Powerline Pass, which is framed by O'Malley, the Ramp, Avalanche and Ptarmigan peaks.

There are easy to walk switchbacks the whole way up. Just stick to the main trail.
On the trail, we saw lots of moose and the area is known to have bears.
